> Tell me about yourself, where do you live, what is your name, how old are > you? > My name is Ryan Akins, I live in the city Saskatoon, in the province of Saskatchewan, in Canada. I'm now 21 years old. born 1980. I'm currently a student in Commerce. > > Why did you want to put up a site (or page) devoted to something about > Degrassi? > I put up the site last year. I had known Degrassi existed when I was younger, but had never taken an interest in it. About this time last year I was watching as many episodes as I could. They were all reruns, but I hadn't seen them before. I kind of fell in love with the show and its characters. So in an effort to learn more about the characters, the episodes, and to see how many episodes I hadn't seen yet, I checked the internet for Degrassi sites. The top two most informative sites both belonged Mark's webring. Eventually after watching many episodes and having much Degrassi exposure, I decided that I too had something to say about the Degrassi characters and some of its bizarre episodes. I didn't do any outside research other than watch the shows, and my site isn't a comprehensive "informative" site. It's more of an, "here's an opinion" site. > > When did you come up with the idea to have a Degrassi site? > Last year I came up with the idea, because I couldn't get enough of Degrassi. > > How did you finally decide to put it up? > > I initially just wanted to make a web site, and Degrassi gave me the biggest artistic inspiration at the time. Of course I realized that more people might actually get to see it if it was connected to something, so I applied to get on Mark's webring. > How has it evolved? > Initially it was just the pictures of a few characters with the sarcastic commentary, or something interesting I noticed about those characters in the show. Later on, I incorporated some sound clips which I taped from the show. I thought these were pretty funny. One of them was when Shane and Luke were talking about getting high. > After that, I added a few more characters and commentaries. Then I planned to write some comical Degrassi fiction spoofing the characters lives. I think I wrote one story, but after that I kind of lost interest in writing any more stories. I wrote some quasi-comical poems with one character as the theme for each. I've been more busy in school this year, so I haven't worked on the site in probably half a year. > Have you gotten emails from Degrassi cast and crew? > > No, I haven't gotten any emails from the Degrassi cast or crew. They're probably all quite a bit older than me, but it would very interesting to hear what they have to say, or what they think about the site. I thought I saw Kathleen trying out for that Popstars show. Did anyone else get that impression? She didn't make it to the final, but I thought I saw her in one of the group auditions. > Any future plans for your Degrassi site? > As soon as I got this questionaire, I went back and checked out my site. I was impressed. It looks better than I had thought it looked like. I also checked the comment box. The consensus seems to be that they like the quality, but there's not enough quantity. As well, they want more information on the characters. So, and this may have actually motivated me to do some more work on the site this summer, I may try to add more character descriptions and analysis. There was also a request for some info on the lesser known characters. It's true I kind of focussed on the main stars, and I know that the lesser known characters can be just as popular with some people. > How long have you been a fan of the show? > I've been a true fan of the show for 2 years now. Before that, I didn't really know anything about it. Although I haven't been a fan for that long, my introduction into it was intense. Watching 2 episodes each week day on CBC. I tried never to miss an episode. > Anything you want to add about yourself, your site etc? > > It's great to see the comments on the site. I was doubtful whether anyone would actually visit it. If someone gets some of the pleasure out of looking at it, as I get out of making it, then it makes it very worthwhile. >
